My future husband had confessed that besides being a freak he was also a geek. He said that he loved computers and knew everything about them. His confession of being a geek never bothered me, because I liked the way he looked and never thought that it would interfere with our relationship. Besides he had a good job and was able to afford to take me out nicely. We went to the best restaurants, and I tasted food that I never thought existed. He was a great dancer and loved music, I learned to dance to Russian disco music and I loved it. The best part of the evening was saved for last, that is when we went to his apartment and spent the night making love. We were great together in every way. A few months latter I wound up in a wedding chapel, I was his happy bride.

We bought a large house in the suburbs and furnished it beautifully. But there was one room in the basement that gave me the chills; it had a large oak door that was impenetrable. My husband called it his laboratory, and said that is where he would do his work. The room was full of all kinds of electronic gear, most of which I have never seen before. There were large screens and black boards in every corner. It reminded me of a scene in an old horror movie. I quickly left the room swearing I would never look at it again.

My marriage took a turn for the worse when my husband was promoted to be the head of the programming department. He was given a large raise and said his new job required him to take home much of his work. He also said that he would be spending much of his time in the basement working on a program that would revolutionize the way data was transported. I never seen him much after that, most of his time was spent in the basement, the only time I saw him is when he went to bed. Some times I didn’t even see him then, there was a cot in the basement in which he often spent the night. Our sex life disappeared, he said he was too tired for that, he claimed that sex drained his creative ability and he would rather not have it until he finished his project. This went on for months and then years, he never seemed to finish his project. When ever I knocked on the basement door to speak to him, he angrily said; “Can’t you see that I’m busy?”

I don’t believe in divorce, my only hope is that my husband will finish his project and our life will return to normal. But my advice to other women is---- marry a freak but never a computer geek
